What is Virtual Desktop?

The Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) gives Coast Colleges students 24x7 access to Microsoft Windows 10 and compatible software needed for academic endeavors. Coast Colleges students, faculty and staff can use these virtual machines from anywhere, from any computer from practically any device with a secure internet connection. This service is available to all College faculty, staff and students from both on and off campus.

As a Coast Colleges student, the benefit is that you can access these software programs without having to purchase and install them on your personal computer. Just install a simple client and off you go. To log in you MUST have a secure internet connection.

Where to get it?

Instructure Canvas is cloud based, no install is required. You can reach the Coast Colleges instance of Canvas at http://canvas.cccd.edu

What is it used for?

Open, intuitive, and born in the cloud, Canvas streamlines all the digital tools and content that teachers and students love, for a simpler and more connected learning experience.

How do I use it?

Instructure has produced a number of useful tutorials and videos on "Getting Started with Canvas".
You can view these tutorials and videos at https://community.canvaslms.com.

How do I log into Canvas?

There are two options for logging into Canvas.

  1. (Option 1) Log in using your MyCCC user name:
    1. To log into Canvas, go to the Canvas login with MyCCC username page.
    2. Click the button that reads "Login with your MyCCC, MyOCC, or MyGWC Account". When you click on that button you will be directed to a login page.
    3. Enter your MyCCC user name and MyCCC password, and click the Login button.
  2. (Option 2) Alternate Login instructions:

    To set up your alternate login, go to the Canvas login via email webpage. The first time that you use this method you will need to establish a Canvas password.

    1. Click on the "Password Help" link
    2. Enter your Coastline email, and click "Request Password"
    3. Click the password reset link received in your email
    4. Follow the instructions to change your Password

Microsoft Office 365

Coast College Full-time Faculty, Full-time Staff, Full-time Students are eligible to install the desktop version of Microsoft Office 365 on, up to, five (5) devices. This also includes the web-based version of Office 365.

*Students do not have access to Outlook 365. Student Email is accessible via Student Gmail.

Part-time Students, Part-time Faculty and Part-time Staff are provided web-based ONLY version of Office 365.

How to install Office 365

Step 1: To begin the install process, please go to Microsoft Office Apps (https://m365.cloud.microsoft.com/apps)
Step 2: Sign in using your Coast Colleges provided email account and password
Step 3: Click on the "Install Office" button
